Question and Answers

What could cause the igniter to not come on?

You stated that the wire came off the sensor or did the male terminal pull out of the sensor? If the wire had come off you should be able to put it back on. If the terminal pulled out it the sensor has to be replaced. The sensor is normally a closed switch which allows the voltage to pass through and to the igniter. If the sensor has an open circuit through the sensor it will need to be replaced.

There are several other components that can fail and cause the igniter to not come on:

  • Timer
  • Hi-limit thermostat
  • Operating thermostat
  • Thermal fuse
  • Sensor
  • Motor switch
