Question and Answers

flame shuts off, dryer keeps running. LGR5636PQ0 Whirlpool Residential dryer

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your dryer. From the symptom you described it could have a restricted venting system. If the dryer cannot exhaust properly the high limit thermostat is going to shut the burner off and it will not allow the flame to come back on until the high limit thermostat cools down and resets itself. When there is a venting restriction the burner flame is not going to be pulled into the heater box correctly and will cause the high limit thermostat to open and shut off the burner. Try this: Load the dryer with wet clothes, disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and then start it. See if the flame will cycle on and off normally. If it does that would confirm that there is vent restriction. NOTE: DO NOT LEAVE THE VENT HOSE OFF AFTER TESTING. Reconnect the vent hose after testing burner operation. I recommend checking the vent system for any blockages from the dryer to where ever it vents outside.
