Question and Answers

Q:

Why would cause my Whirlpool gas dryer to quit heating and timer not advancing all the way to off at the same time?

A:

Based on your symptoms in your details the likely failure is the thermal fuse (key#6). A failed thermal fuse will prevent the dryer from producing heat and prevent the timer from advancing all the way to the off position.

The thermal fuse (key#6) likely opened due to a restricted venting system or either the operating thermostat (key#8) or high limit thermostat (key#15) failed to open and turn the heat off. See image below for component locations.

The thermal fuse (key#6) is part# 3392519 and can be accessed by removing the rear panel. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the rear panel.
