Question and Answers

dryer wont heat up

I understand that your Whirlpool dryer's pilot will not light causing your dryer not to heat. I have taken some time to research your question here on the Manage My Life website and I noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I attached the link below for you to view. I hope the link that I provided is helpful. Have a nice day.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Your gas dryer does not have a pilot light, it has a glow bar igniter that glows red hot to ignite the burner. If you seeing the glow bar igniter glowing red and then fading off without burner ignition then it likely has faulty solenoid coils. The solenoid coils are mounted on top of the gas valve assembly and in order to access and replace the solenoid coils will require removing the front panel. Note: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your dryer.

I added a YouTube video showing how to access and replace the solenoid coils if you feel confident in repairing your dryer. The part number for the kit is 279834 which can be ordered from Sears PartsDirect

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
