Thank you for your question.

I can understand not wanting to pay that much for a light bulb.

All it is in the dryer for is to illuminate the dryer drum.

The dryer will work fine even with the bulb burnt out.

You may be able to find the bulb locally for about $6 to $8 from a local appliance parts supplier and you can save the shipping cost. You can use part number 22002263 as a replacement part number for a Whirlpool dryer.

I hope this information will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life. Thank you for your question.

Thanks Sam I am going to have to look at that bulb again. It really looked like the bulb was completely blocked by enclosed metal that would face the back of the drum and therefore block all light from somehow getting inside of the drum. So Sam.....no way this light is not used for something else on this model? And thank you so much for your time. I could not find this info anywhere else!

Thank you for the update. The light bulb is accessible from inside the drum. You will need to locate and remove the one screw that secures the light lens and then you can get to the bulb. Key # 6 is the screw to remove. I will send you a parts breakdown of that part of the dryer drum. I hope this will help. Sam A.
