Thank you for your question and the pictures. I'm sorry youre having this problem with the mullion. Unfortunately there is no part for this. The section that broke is built into the liner and the only repair will be to replace the complete door # ADD72935907. It would probably also be good to replace the holder # MEG61899901 at the same time. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will assist you further.

Hi. I have an LG model lfx25978st that has the same problem. In fact, the picture that Lance provided looks exactly like how my clip broke. It is uncanny that the pattern of breakage is almost exactly the same. It's as if Lance came to my house and took a picture of my LG. My guess is that this 5-cent part is defective on many units...probably a problem on the manufacturing line. The suggested replacement part costs in excess of $300.00. I obviously could not find the specific replacement part for just the clip, so I attempted to super glue the broken piece back into place. I have not yet reassembled the unit. I will find out tonight if the glue was sufficient or not. With the broken piece glued in, you can see that the part was not fully formed in the mold. When we purchased this refrigerator, I was concerned about the design of the mullion...it seemed like it was too fragile to take the abuse of opening and closing multiple times everyday...but the rest of the features/fit were exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately my concerns became reality. I called LG and they directed me to a part vendor website that was not very helpful (it did not list my model LG). Obviously I have not posted anything about a solution, but hopefully others who are researching refrigerators such as the Kenmore elite model 795.71053.011 or LG model lfx25978st can make better judgements about what they are purchasing based on real world experiences. Otherwise, the LG is a great refrigerator and we have not had any other problems.

I agree, Mark, and thanks for the response. I suspected that this was a design flaw and it seems LG knows about it and acknowledges it as such since the newest Sears Kenmore Elite models and LG models at Home Depot have the door modified and this clip re-engineered to be replaceable by 2 screws. Also, they changed the door bracket on the newest models with one that has an opening 2x as wide to easily align and catch the mullion and flip it as it closes. On my model, it is just wide enough for the mullion that it jars the entire door if it wasn't perfectly flat as it closed - causing a lot of stress and therefore breakage on the top hinge clip. I've ordered the newer door bracket for < $7 shipped from the following link since it is replaceable with 2 screws (the part # appears to be the same for all of these LG/Sears models and they've updated it in the parts list of my model). Even though my mullion is loose and doesn't fold tight against the door with the broken clip, it closes easily with the new bracket in place. http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Bracket/MEG61899901/1668465?modelNumber=795.71053011 After spending ~$2500 on this "Elite" refrigerator from Sears 18 mo ago, I expected for it to last a long time. Since it appears to be a design flaw, I would hope that LG/Sears would stand behind their units and make it right. I don't plan on spending >$500 (service call, parts, and labor) to replace the entire door for a bit of plastic that seems likely to break off again in the next 18 months. Hopefully, they would replace this defect or engineer a cost-effective in-field fix to this issue. Mark - Let me know if the super glue works. I never found the bit of plastic, but plan to use Loctitie's Ultragel (thick, no drip) super glue to glue the entire hinge onto the remainder of the clip and door liner. The hinge side has a large flat surface that surrounds the clip, so hopefully gluing will hold.

Lance, the glue did not work. I think I used the same glue you mentioned in your post. I let it set for 24 hours, but as soon as I tried to slip the hinge over the dovetail it snapped off. I will try to remember to snap a picture of the broken piece tonight and post here. Maybe if other people do that, LG and Kenmore will realize this is not an isolated issue and actually do something right about this. Thanks for the info.

I have the exact same problem on the same model Kenmore. Disappointed in Kenmore and find the repair cost unacceptable. Bought this unit in 2011 with expectation it would last many years. Contacting customer service hoping for a better option. Hopefully they will stand behind there product.
