I am sorry you are having a problem with the new element. I think what is confusing you is the limit thermostat on the element. The limit thermostat will come off the element and plug onto the new element. I have found a video that shows how to replace the element. Please click here to watch the video. Please make sure to unplug the dryer before attempting to replace the element.

To access the heating element will require pulling the dryer away from the wall, disconnecting the power cord and remove the rear dryer panel.

I added the instructions in the image below. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the rear panel.
