Question and Answers

Q:

drum not turning LEQ8857HQ0 Whirlpool Dryer

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your dryer and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number LEQ8857HQ0 and from your description I recommend checking on the belt, it is possible that the belt snapped and no longer turning the drum. Also make sure the motor itself is working, You should be able to hear humming from the motor if it is working. Make sure that the support rollers are turning free and not causing the drum to sieze up.

Q:

How do I replace the motor in my Whirlpool dryer?

A:

The back end of the drive motor attaches to the blower wheel. I provided the procedure with images below for removing the drive motor in this type of dryer.

Q:

Why is my whirlpool dryer not starting?

A:

From what you described it sounds like the motor is failing. When the motor bearings start going out you will get a hum noise & the motor will overheat. This causes the motor internal overload protector to trip. This will prevent the motor from restarting until it has cooled off. I would recommend having the motor replaced.
