There could be numerous other failures preventing a electric dryer from heating:

  • Timer
  • Heating element
  • Thermostat
  • High limit
  • Igniter
  • Gas coils
  • Motor switch
  • Thermal fuse
  • Flame switch

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.

Q:

How do I replace the heating element on a Whirlpool dryer?

A:

First, try resetting both breakers dedicated for the dryer and then retest dryer for heat.

There are several components in the heating circuit that could fail and cause no heat.

  • Timer
  • Thermal cutoff
  • Operating thermostat
  • High limit thermostat
  • Heating element
  • Motor centrifugal switch
  • Incoming voltage supply
  • Burnt wire

I added an image showing the heater location and rear panel. I also added an image of the wiring diagram. I order to diagnose the failure; a volt/ohm meter is needed. The only thing that you can check visually is the heating element. It can be remove and visually inspected for a broken filament wire. A volt/ohm meter will be needed to ohm out the other components that is wired in series with the heating element.

Most likely the heating element has failed or an open thermal cutoff. NOTE: Disconnect the power to the dryer before removing the rear panel. Remove the rear panel by removing all the screws. The heating element is key#17 in the first image. Key#74 will need to be removed in order to remove the heating element housing(key#14) with element.

The link below will have instructions on how to release the clips in order to raise the top so you can access key#74.
