Q:

How do I install a heater element in a Whirlpool dryer?

A:

The heating element is accessible by removing the rear panel.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the rear panel.

  1. Remove the rear panel (key#7).
  2. Disconnect the two wires from the heating element, (key#17), the wires from the thermal cut off (key#6) and the high limit thermostat (key#15).
  3. Remove the screw and bracket (key#12&74) securing the heating element housing (key#14) at the top of the heater housing.
  4. Pull the upper portion of the heater housing loose from the bulkhead (key#48).
  5. Lift the heater housing upwards and then pull the bottom outwards and down.
  6. Remove the one screw securing the heating element to the housing.
  7. Slide the heating element out of the heater housing.
  8. Reverse the procedure to install the new heating element.
