Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The 4 wire pigtail should have 4 wires. A red, black, white and green. The red will connect to one of the outer terminals and the black will connect to the other outer terminal. The white wire will connect to the center terminal. Green will connect to cabinet ground. If there is a ground wire connected between the center terminal and cabinet ground, you should disconnect it because you will be connecting the green ground wire to cabinet ground and the center terminal should not be connected to cabinet ground.

I added an image below with the instructions. _ NOTE: Be sure the new power cord is not plugged in until you wire it up the back of the dryer._

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

How do I change the cord on my Kenmore dryer from a 3 wire cord to a 4 wire cord?

A:

Although you did not provide a model number for your Kenmore dryer, most 4 prong dryer cords are connected as shown in the image below. The white neutral wire will be connected on the middle screw of the terminal block as shown below. The red wire will be connected on one side of the white wire and the black wire will be connected on the other. It does not matter which side the red and black wires are connected on. Make sure that the power cord is unplugged when these wires are being connected.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore dryer.
