I know how important it is to have a good working washer in the home so that you can keep your clothes nice and clean. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did manage to find two links that will provide you with some good tips. I hope my links are useful.

If the washer is draining the water out then the motor and pump belt are okay.

You say the drive belt is okay but you cannot turn the pulley. If the pulley will not turn then likely the spin bearing is the problem.

To repair this problem would require a new brake assembly and spin bearing. There is also a brake release tool you will have to have to complete this job.

This is not a good do-it-yourself project. I would strongly suggest a technician repair this problem. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.

Fred, thanks for the response. The belts and pulleys move fine on the bottom. It is the internal basket that I can't turn. I was told that this could be as simple as a brake problem. I want to tackle this myself. How do I go about it? Thanks, Jason

I would disagree with the "as simple as a brake problem" statement. On a scale of 1 (easy) to 10 (difficult) i'd rate this repair about a 9. First you will need a 6-2011900 brake assembly and then you will need a 038315 brake tool. The two will cost approximately $150 dollars. If you know someone with the tool already it would help but the repair can not be done safely without the tool. If you wish to do-it-yourself then let me know when you get the parts and we'll assist you further.
