Question and Answers

Q:

How do I get the drive block off my Maytag model LA8650 washer to get the tub off?

A:

Replacing the mounting stem and seal will most likely repair the leak. The image below should help with this problem.

The nut is best removed with a spanner wrench. The part number for the spanner wrench is 22038313 and can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect . This is a left hand thread and you will need to turn it clockwise to release.

You may have to use a mallet to hit the spanner wrench hard enough to break it free. A straight edged screwdriver can be used instead of the spanner wrench but the nut can be damaged doing so and I recommend getting a spanner wrench.

The mounting stem is held down with a set screw that must be loosened first. See the picture in the image below for how to do this.

I hope this information helps to resolve this problem but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
