Question and Answers

Q:

What kind of oil do I use in the transmission of my Whirlpool washer?

A:

The part number for the gearcase oil is 350572 and can be obtained from the following site: Sears PartsDirect . It is an SAE60 type oil.

I wouldn't suggest adding oil to the transmission.

If the transmission on leaked a small amount then I would just continue to use the washer. Depending on the size of the leak the washer may continue to work for years.

The transmission is not very practical to service and if you wish to do-it-yourself I'd recommend you use the washer till the oil leak causes the washer to stop and then replace the transmission with a 3360629R replacement transmission for about $109 dollars.

Another thing to consider is that there are several similar model washers that new sale in the $300-$400 dollar range.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
