Question and Answers

Q:

What snapped when the door was open on my Kitchen Aid dishwasher?

A:

The door spring breaking is the most likely part that will cause this problem.

The door spring can be replaced by you but you will need to partially uninstall the dishwasher to do it.

The spring is part number 8270020 and is available from the following link: Sears PartsDirect . There is also a rope link that might have broken. The part number for the link is 8535568.

You will need to pull the dishwasher out about 12 inches to check which part broke. The first image below shows you how to remove the lower access panel. Remember to turn the power to the dishwasher off before accessing any parts .

Open the door and remove the two screws going into the cabinet top. Depending upon how much slack you have in the water line and the drain hose you can pull the dishwasher out of it's hole about 12 inches till you can see the spring and rope link.

A:

I'm going to pull the appliance from the cabinet and find out what snapped. It was probably a spring on the door. I believe I can take it from here. Thanks anyway!
