When the Kitchenaid dishwasher overflows, it is necessary to get this issue resolved. A similar question has been answered in the link provided below which may be helpful while waiting for additional information from an expert. I will also provide the link for the parts breakdown.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the dishwasher is overflowing because it's not able to drain water, the most likley cause is a restriction or blockage in the check valve assembly or a restriction in the drain hose. It could also have a restriction/blockage where the drain hose is connected to the drain under the sink.

I added an image below of the pump and motor assembly and I circled the check valve which is located under the dishwasher. To remove the top of the pump, pull the spray arm up and off and then remove the screws on the top of the pump and then it can be lifted off.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Joey thank you for the quick reply. I will add some more detail---this happens intermittently does not overflow on every use the soapy water comes out at the bottom of door when it does leak. I have checked the float as well as I know how can not see how to take the float out from inside the machine. When I raised the float I could hear the micro switch activate. I have not checked the timer programmer to see if is sending commands at correct times. Thank you for the parts breakdown Wayne

Wayne: The detergent should never make that much suds or it will leak. Place a tablespoon of vegitable oil in the dishwasher and run it without any dishes or detergent to remove the suds. Then run another cycle without detergent and it wil not likely leak. You may want to use another brand of detergent or use less. Based on your hearing the float switch clicking, it is Okay. Now, if the water inlet valve is sticking open or if the dishwasher is not draining all the water, it could cause it to overfill and leak. I believe the leak is caused by way too much detergent and suds.

Joey: your suggestion made sense and for sure should be looked into before you go tearing into a 25 year old machine. I tried the oil with out any load there was no leaks then as you said I ran another complete cleaning cycle with no load and no detergent still no leak. This morning since I had no new detergent (I had been using Tide pods) punctured the package and drained out about half the soap and washed a normal load. The dishes came out clean but it leaked the leak started about when the timer got to LIGHT/CHINA. Left the same load in bought a box of Cascade powder ran the washer again and had no leaks the pods are old 08/23/12 in case that makes a difference. Again thank you for the help it will be at least one more day before its tested again I will rate you as a 10 Wayne---- I will rate you as a 10

Wayne: Based on your reply, I would have to say those "Tide Pods" is causing the suds and leak. I have never hear of "Tide Pods" designed for dishwashers, only for clothes washers. I would not use anything but dishwashing detergent made for automatic dishwashers.

Joey: Holy molly--- well instead of crying I have to laugh, the only excuse I have is that I am new at this domestic life next time I will read the container its so funny think I will tell every one except for the ex. I do now have enough soap to do 25 loads of laundry and if the seals in the dish washer did not get ate up with the wrong detergent I will wash ever dish in the house even the clean ones. I think there was a reason it was left near the dish washer instead of in the laundry room Thank you Wayne
