Question and Answers

Q:

Dishwasher made bad sounds, then smoke poured out of the control panel. Can it be repaired? KUDM01TJBS0

Q:

quick flashing lights on control panel Kitchenaid Dishwasher

A:

Thank you for your question.  A model number would help me give you more advice but the problem you describe is likely a stuck or shorted keypad.  If you can not cancel the Rinse cycle or can not choose various cycles and options then you likely have a stuck or short keypad meaning the console will likely need to be replaced.  First make sure the Control Lock feature is not turned on.  The control lock feature is usually controlled by the Heated Dry/Air Dry keypad.  There should be a small padlock image.  Sometimes you can remove the console after turning the power off and remove the ribbon connector from the main control for a minute or so and then reinsert it and see if there is an improvement.  If you reply with a model number I may be able to assist you further.

On this particular dishwasher the control lock feature is turned on and off with the Enerfy Saver DRy keypad. If the control lock feature is not turned on then you will likely need to replace the console.

Q:

kitchen aid model # KUDM01TJBS0 . STOPPED STARTING WITH START BUTTON

A:

It can be a real headache when your dishwasher fails to start properly. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the dishwasher stopped in mid-cycle and one or more cycle or options LED's are flashing, it will likely need a new electronic control. If only one light is blinking, the usual cause is a faulty touch panel/control panel.

If you are able to cancel the options and cycles, and it will cancel and drain, then it likely has a faulty control panel.

If it will not cancel and drain, it could have a faulty door switch. I added an image below showing which to pins to measure across for continuity when the Start button is pushed and held. You will need to disconnect the P1 connector from the control board and measure across pins P1-12 and P1-4. If the Ohm meter does not measure any continuity when the Start button is pushed, the control panel will need to be replaced.

To access the control, disconnect the power supply from the dishwasher.

Open the door and then remove the screws located behind the control panel.  Disconnect the P1 connector from the control and place one meter lead on pin 12 and the other meter lead on pin 4.  I added an image of the user interface matrix. Switch #7 is for the Start key pad.
