Question and Answers

Why does my KitchenAid dishwasher model KUDL02IRBS1 leave water in the bottom of the tub after all cycles that I run?

Several different problems could prevent the dishwasher from draining properly. Here are some issues to check:

  • Check to see if the dishwasher will drain the remaining water by using the CANCEL/DRAIN button. This will normally cause the drain pump to run when the door is closed. If the dishwasher still won't drain, check the air gap on the sink if you have one installed. A clogged air gap can prevent the dishwasher from draining properly.
  • Check the drain hose for a clog. Make sure that it is properly installed with an anti-siphon loop in the drain hose.
  • A problem in the sump area could prevent the dishwasher from draining. The image below shows how to access the sump area in this type of dishwasher. Your model is slightly different than the one shown below but the basic procedure is the same. If you are able to shut off the breaker for the dishwasher and access the sump area, you can check the drain check valve shown below.
  • A failed drain pump or a problem with the control board could prevent the dishwasher from draining. A technician would normally need to diagnose and repair this type of problem.
