Question and Answers

Q:

Controls not working KUDI02IRWH4 Kitchenaid Dishwasher

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I am sorry to hear about the unresponsive buttons, I know how frustrating that is.

I would start by running a diagnostic test on the unit if you can. The sequence for your model is to push Heated Dry-Normal-Heated Dry-Normal within 6 seconds while in standby.

Running the diagnostic will clear all status and last ran information from memory and restores defaults. It also forces the next cycle to be a sensor calibration cycle. It may take several minutes for the diagnostic check to conclude, but it's worth performing.

Another possibility could be a loose/damaged electrical ribbon from the control panel to the board. I would gain access to the ribbon and pull the pin and check/clean the contacts if any corrosion is showing and then re-connect to make sure it's secure.

Other possibilities, as you mentioned, could be the control panel with some shorted keys from the keypad or even a control board failure. You could test the keypad with an Ohm meter if you have one and are comfortable using it.

Those would be the most logical components that could be at fault based upon the issue you are experiencing, listed in the order of relevance. Hopefully this helps.

Repairs/diagnostics of this nature can be tricky. If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, click hereto be directed to the page to set up service.

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Wow! This has been a trying repair. The image was, indeed a great help. But, if anyone goes by it in the future, please note that the instruction says to unscrew the impeller assembly clockwise, and even shows it being turned that way. That was wrong, at least for my machine. I did finally manage to turn the assembly clockwise, but I tore it up in the process. After I got it apart I found that it had a regular right-hand thread, so I was trying to tighten it. I hope it doesn't cost too much to replace the parts I destroyed. Who knows; maybe those parts should have been replaced, anyway. Thanks, though. I'll keep you posted on how the rest of the repair goes.
