Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you're having this problem with the fridge. If the unit will start when you adjust the dial on the control, it indicates the contact inside the control is getting stuck. The control # 2302286 will need to be replaced. It's available at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/2302286/0046/106?pathTaken=directMatch&filterPart=&pop=flush&prst=0&shdPart=2302286&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thanks Scott. From the link, that is listed as the the thermostat. From the liner diagram, it looks as if it is placed on the left, above the fridge control dial. There seems to be a different thermostat 2204991 (or equivalent) above the freezer control dial. It is our freezer that is misbehaving as opposed to the fridge (that we can see). Please confirm.

This can be a confusing model. If the unit is shutting off completely and you are adjusting the thermostat dial, then the control listed # 2302286 will need to be replaced. The second control you are noticing is only for the air supply. It does not control the on/off function of the unit. I hope this will help you.

Thanks again Scott I wasn't sure if I wanted to ask the question because I did not want to be seen to be 'second guessing' the expert. Call it one of the challenges of electronic communications. Your tone and clarity put those concerns to rest! Your answer is indeed, again, greatly appreciated.
