Question and Answers

Q:

How do I install the control board for my Kitchenaid refrigerator?

A:

Instructions are the most important things to have when it comes to appliances and replacing parts. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, I was searching the Manage My Life website and found your owners manuals. I have attached the link below. Have a nice day!

Thank you for your question. Replacing the main control board can be a challenge. To replace this board will require removing the top panel to access the compressor compartment. First, disconnect power to the unit. When the top panel is removed, you will be able to see the control box. Remove the front cover to the control box and you will see the main board (see image). The new board should be an exact replacement, so the wire connections should fit back in the same locations. I would recommend making a note of where the wires are connected on the original board to have a reference if needed. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Scott, I have a 4 year old KSSO42QTB00 Built in Kitchenaid refrigerator that has been cycling on and off. We had a technician come out today and he said we needed to replace the main control board. They just called back with the repair price ($655.41) and said I needed 2 control boards replace. They said I can order my parts separately and they will install them for $200. The main controller I found is less than half the price they quoted me. The part number for the main control board I have found is W1029462. Can you tell me the part number for the 2nd controller labelled Dispencer Control Board? Thanks-Norm

I'm trying to replace the main control board for my 6 year old KitchenAid KSSC42QTS00 builtin refrigerator. In order to remove the control board, do I need to wheel the refrigerator out so I can access the control box from the top? I opened the control box without wheeling the fridge out, but the board seemed difficult to get to from the front, since the plate with the power On/Off switch seemed to be in the way...thanks.

Satish, this can be a difficult board to replace. It will have to be removed from the front. Unfortunately, there is no simple procedure and as you can see in the picture, some wires will need to be moved around to access the control. I would recommend having a technician make this repair. You can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out.
