Thank you for your question. I know it can be frustrating when the refrigerator stops cooling. The filter will not cause a cooling problem. If its not cooling at all, it first needs to be determined if the compressor is running. If the compressor is running, the problem will probably be in the seal system or with the compressor. It could be a low charge, a restriction or the compressor may not be pumping properly. These are checks a technician will be required to make.

If the compressor is not running, it could be a problem with the starting device, the compressor itself or if the condenser motor is not running. If the motor is not running and the compressor is very hot, the motor will need to be replaced. If the motor is running but not the compressor, sometimes it can be difficult to determine if the problem is with the starting device or the compressor. If the starting device is burnt or if it rattles when shaken, it will indicate the starting device has failed. A technician will have a kit and meter, he can attach to the compressor, that will determine if the compressor or starting device has failed. Without this kit and meter, a chance can be taken to replace the starting device # 8201786 and capacitor # 2169373. If the compressor still wont run or if it runs but then quits again, it will need to be replaced. Im listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.
