Q:

I need to change out a broken speed control lever and have the part. Can you provide me with instruction for changin out? KSM150PSWH0 Kitchenaid Mixer

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number KSM150PSWH0 and the repair does require a good amount of disassembling. I do not recommend you doing the repair if you are not comfortable doing it. First make sure the unit is unplugged.  Under the pedestal therer is screw in the middle that you will slightly loosen, then you will need to remove #18 on the diagram, which I have included a link for.  You will need a flat head screwsdriver and hammer which you will use to gently tap out the pin from it place.  Holding the mixer upside down facing up to you you will need to remove the drip ring #35, you may need to use a flat head screwdriver to pry it off. After the ring is off you need to gently tap out the next pin #14.
Next you will need to remove the 2 screws that are between the 2 levers and the 2 screws to rear #30. Next turn the unit around and remove #23. The small rear cover will now come off and give you the room to push away the power cord from its slot. #34 is the next piece to come out. It will come out as an assembly and you may need to flathead screw drivers to pry it up gently. The gears are greased very well and may be messing. With the gear assembly out you will see 5 screws that will need to be removed. With the 5 screws removed you will now need to gently wiggle the 2 halves apart. It will be messing. You will now be able to replace the lever. I recommend taking pictures if you believe it will help.

Thank you for your question.

I had the same problem with two different mixers. On my mixer, the problem was the control plate but on a friends mixer the problem was a broken governor. When I was repairing my mixer, I can onto a complete service manual for kitchen aid mixers. The manual has all the information for diagnosing and repairing the mixer. The file is too large to post to our site so I will email a copy to you.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the mixer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

Mark T - can you email (TKATJ@msn.com) me the service manual for this mixer too? KSM150PSGC? My lock will not lock the head down. We have adjusted the screw that controls the beater to bowl clearance and, if the screw is moved enough for the lock to engage, the beaters hit severely on the bottom of the bowl. If the clearance is correct, the lock will not go all the way and will release with any pressure. Have already taken the head off the stand and looked at everything there. Nothing. Considering taking the head of the unit apart and seeing if there is something that can be adjusted there. I think a complete service manual might be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Hi Mark, I have a quick question... I received the manual..thanks so much... My mixer does not run, hum, nothing when switched on...it was working at various speeds sometimes then would switch speeds on their own..and would also work then shut off then start working again...it had a mind of its own... now when you turn it on it doesnt work at all now...the gears are fine and rotate...my assumption is the speed control switch....but what about the circuit board..I think they call it the assembly controlis there a way to tell which one it is????? thank you very much for your help in this matter

Based on what it was doing before it quit, I recommend replacing the speed control. Once you have the control installed turn the section 6 in the manual to adjust the speed control.

I hope to hear from you.

Thank you, Mark T.

The symptom that you are describing seems to indicate that the Phase Control Board is bad (part 9706595). There is a chance that you may also have a problem with that control plate assembly. I recommend that you examine that control plate assembly. If it seems to be operating properly, then I recommend that you try replacing that phase control board first. That may fix your problem. Be sure that the mixer is unplugged when accessing and replacing internal components.

You can order parts from this page: KitchenAid Mixer Motor and Control Parts .

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.
