Question and Answers

Q:

Why did my Kitchen Aid model KGYW777BWH2 gas dryer stop heating?

A:

If the Kitchen Aid model KGYW777BWH2 runs but does not heat then the most likely cause of this problem is a bad thermal fuse.

The thermal fuse and operating thermostat are located in the rear behind the access panel. See the image below. I recommend checking the thermal fuse first for this problem.

Remember to unplug the dryer first before making any checks.

If you have access to a volt/ohm meter and are comfortable in using it you can check for continuity across the thermal fuse and the thermostats. If any are open across the terminals then that's the bad part.

If you don't have a meter there is another way the thermal fuse and thermostat can be checked. If you're comfortable and confident in your do-it-yourself skills and with extreme caution you can join (jump) the two wires of the thermal fuse together with a small wire. Wrap with electrical tape and don't let it hit any metal and try to see if the dryer will heat. If it does heat then replace the thermal fuse but do not continue to run the dryer with the fuse or thermostat jumped out.
