Q:

dryer heats, timer does not run

A:

 Hi,

Thanks for contacting  ManageMyLife.  I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance.

The dryer uses the black to blue contact to power the main motor and the timer motor and the two wire to the timer motor can also be checked while plugged in for 120 Volts AC.  If the reading is 120 or less the timer motor should be moving the dial.  I could also be the grey to the white and black wire.  In any case it is a timer that would need to be replaced.

NOTE:

Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service.

Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

NOTE:  Live voltage checks are dangerous, and possibly deadly. Exercise caution at all times.

If you are not comfortable working with live electricity I recommend you call a Sears Home Services  technician.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Thanks for the information about your dryer model KEYS700GQ0, I will be glad to assist you with this. There could be several different reasons your dryer does not heat. First you will need to verify that the power supply to the dryer is correct. The dryer electrical supply should be coming from the home breaker box and controlled by two breakers that are attached to each other. Normally 30 amp but could be up to 40 amp. This will be a double breaker and both side must be in the on position, the best way to check is to turn the breakers to off, then back to on. Test the dryer for heating. _Always disconnect power supply before servicing the appliance and when testing live voltage be sure to wear proper safety equipment (gloves and eye protection) also be aware of sharp metals on product_If there is no breaker issue, now check the power supply at the terminal block where the power cord attaches to the dryer. There should be 240 volts ac +-5% between the two hot lines. You will need a high quality volt/ohm meter to test voltage and ohms from this point on. After verifying power to the dryer and all is normal you will need to test the heating components, starting with the element and working the circuit back through all the thermostats and thermal fuse.I will attach an image below with a wiring diagram, and thermostat locations. I hope this helps, if you need more help reply with more details and I will be happy to respond. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.
