Question and Answers

Q:

How do I modify the compatible part to replace the smooth top glass range? KESH307BWH8 Kitchenaid 30

A:

Thank you for choosing Searspartsdirect.com and being a valued member. I can certainly assist you.

I do apologize I am not seeing that part number listed in the parts diagram for your model. The technician may have subsistuted the top without checking if they are similar. We do not give information to alter any of the parts. The manufacture does not allow us to. You will need to contact the technician to get the correct top or contact the manufacture.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

I already have checked Sears for parts, diagrams, et al. I already contacted the technician to "get the correct top," as I explained above. The chat technician checked his resources and said that the manufacturer established that the part was compatible with my stove (which is a 1997 model and is not made nor supported for parts anymore) -- and it probably could be, but it needs to be modified. If the manufacturer does not allow information on modification, then they should not be claiming that it is compatible. (On the other hand, saying that it was indicates that it could be, which is helpful.) In the KESH307 diagram, NONE of the parts numbers are listed -- you actually have to use your EYES to see which part it is. The glass top range is part #1 in diagram 1 of that model. Then you must use your EYES again to compare it with the Sears part and note the obvious difference. I'm surprised you could not do this basic comparison. It is clear that you have no access to basic information about either or both types of cooktops to allow a comparison that would help me plan a modification. You could just say so. The only miniscule "assistance" you have offered so far is that the manufacturer will not allow you to advise us on modification. Having a Sears repairman come to my home to insert an incompatible part is NOT a good answer. It's a great way to get a customer totally disgusted with Sears. Have a great day.

I do apologize, but the part that is for your unit is no longer available. The manufacture did not give Sears the authorized subsitution to replace the glass top. I have studied the diagram as well as other diagrams and are aware of the changes. If it is not in our diagrams we cannot give you information. The part you listed is not in our diagrams. We do not modify parts.

Have a great day.
