soldering components on a circuit board is not something you want to try if you never done it before. and at 450 plus parts you should not have any legs left from him pulling on them :-) if he is talking about IC chips they are even harder to replace sometimes impossible for the naked eye to see the solder points on them they are done by machines at the factory and we just replace the whole board because they just can't be replaced. I think he might mean capacitors which is something that can be replaced but you can ruin the board if you get them soldered on wrong or get solder on anything else on the board you can cause more damage to the TV. it takes a certain knack soldering these small parts on a board. I would be concerned about him calling it a mother board electronic techs who do this for a living knows that a TV has many boards as little as 3 and some as many as 12 or so but none of them do we call mother boards unless we are working on a computer. you can call sears and they will send out a tech for about 115.00 to diagnose the problem and the trip and labor would be about 200.00 combined plus the parts. if it were the capacitors they are about 5-10 dollars each off the truck stock. if you did not get the TV repaired the trip charge is all that you would pay the 115.00 but there would be no pain in your legs:-)

Working on a TV can be difficult and dangerous due to the high voltage circuits inside. Always remember to unplug any TV before trying to service it and if unsure of the proper procedures, seek the service of a trained professional.

Hello Philip,

TC has provided a good response to the issue that you have described with your television.  I agree and also recommend that you contact a local professional television repair service or follow this link: Sears Home Repair, to arrange an appointment.

Thank you for your question. Repairs to televisions with circuit boards are best left to the professionals.  Although I can appreciate your wish to make these repairs yourself, I would recommend taking the set in to a service center.  You can locate a Sears service center at Sears Home Services. A local TV repair may also be able to help.  Both would probably recommend board replacement.  Further information for this model may be found at Sony's support site.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.
