Hello Karen,

I would like to assist you with your television. Does it blink different codes at attempted turn on? The normal type of blink code is a set of blinks, 5 for example, a short pause and then it repeats. Please clarify what you are seeing and I'll be happy to further assist you.

Hello Karen,

Thank you for the clarification of the blink code. Unfortunately this designates a lamp driver error and usually leads the replacement of the lamp driver, or ballast board. This board drives the lamp and regularly develops voltages well in excess of 300 Volts. I cannot recommend that you service the television at this point, due to the danger of this circuit. I recommend that you contact a local repair center or go to the Sears Home Services link at the end of this reply, to arrange an appointment with a Sears television technician. You may also call 800-469-4663.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.

Thanks for your response Jerry. Do you thnk replacing the lamp would help and also is replacing the lamp driver or ballast board something we can do or does it require a service tech and do you know approximately how much either of those would be? I hate to scrap this TV as I paid $1500 for it in 2006 but if i have to put too much into it, i guess i will have to. thanks again, it sounds like you know what you are talking about. Happy Veteran's Day.

Hello Karen,

I appreciate the Veteran's Day wish! The lamp driver is the most likely cause, however it is possible for an error to occur, but the codes on this chassis are usually correct. Personally, I would want to have the lamp and the driver replaced, they work together and if one starts to go, it affects the other. This will bring the cost up, you will have to decide if it is worth the cost to repair this set that is six years old, when for the same price, you can get a brand new one that does not require periodic lamp replacement and has better features. I cannot recommend that anyone except for an experienced technician work on this set, the voltages are far too high. I recommend getting a quote for repair and then making a decision. I have attached a link to Sears Home Services for a repair estimate, at the end of this reply.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.

Hello Sharon,

Can you reply with how many times it blinks? There is generally a set number of blinks and then a short pause and then it repeats. I will need you to also verify the model number of your television too.

Hello Quantrel,

I'm sorry to hear that your optical block has failed and I would like to assist you. I understand your wanting to repair components within the optical block, but this is viewed as not possible due to the precision tools required and the need for a lab quality clean room. Due to the cost of a replacement block and the fact that many are actually rebuilt versions, it may be a better financial move to replace the television with a conventional flat panel type and remove the possibility of this type of failure in the future

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.
