Question and Answers

Q:

The panel on my microwave is broken

A:

When parts on the outside of the GE microwave are broken it does not look good. Below is a link to searspartsdirect.com to look up parts. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. This repair should be done only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. It may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the Microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

Anna T. is correct about the microwaves being dangerous to service. Although the part may be available, I recommend that you have a service technician repair the microwave. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as replacing a panel, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service. It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future.
