Q:

Range hood turns off and on unexpected

A:

Eric, have you had this hood for a while? I can understand your concern but many times the fan is moisture sensitive. It is designed to keep internal components dry and will cycle on and off to accomplish this task. How's the humidity in your home? We've had a very moist summer. All this being said, I will forward your question to an expert who will investigate the matter further and get back to you. You will hear from them within two business days if not sooner. Until you hear from us, have a nice day.

Thanks, Henry. I've had it for around three years, it was normal during the first year. The problem started from the second year, but it only happened occasionally. This year, it happens more frequently, every day, every time I use it. The humidity in my house should be normal, no difference from the first year.

Thank you for choosing ManageMyLife.com and allowing us to help you.

Try unplugging the micro-wave for a couple of minutes and see if that helps. Sometime this will clear an electrical glitch in the appliance. I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on micro-wave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Micro-waves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the micro-wave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. The averge life expectancy of a micro-wave is nine years. Sometimes it can be more cost effective to replace rather than repair this type of appliance. Click here to view what is avalable at Sears.com.

You can have it- repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Click here to schedule service at the Sears Home Services website. A 10% discount coupon is available when service is set online.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.

Thanks again for choosing ManageMyLife.com

From the description you give I suspect the problem is the high voltage transformer or magnetron. A technician is required to diagnose and repair this unit. Microwaves do not make good do-it-yourself projects. Even with no power some parts retain a lethal amount of voltage. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as no microwave action, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service. It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future.
