There is limited technical information on that vent but it appears that the gear motor (part WB26X5101) has a motor break mechanism that should stop the motor when it reaches the top limit or bottom limit. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair that failure. That gear motor will probably need to be replaced. You can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

If you want to fix this problem yourself, you may be able to repair this failure by replacing that gear motor yourself. Based on the limited technical information, I cannot guarantee that replacing that motor will fix your problem but I suspect that it will. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. Here is a direct link for that part: Gearmotor . Shut off the house circuit breaker before accessing and replacing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and the serial number of the vent hood if possible.
