Sounds like the switch that you make the selections with to turn it on, and at what speed, or direction is bad. I would suggest replacing this switch, and it should bring normal function back to you hood. The switch part number is WB24X10035.

Thanks for the inquiry about your range model JVB37A2BB, I will be glad to assist you. The top cover you refer to should have a lip on one side usually the front, it goes on first then pushes down on the back and it snaps into place.
