A:

The theory of operation for the burner ignition system is shown in the image below. I also provided the wiring diagram. You could have a bad thermostat, a failed igniter, an open gas valve or a wiring failure in the ignition circuit that could be causing this problem. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can unplug the range and check the continuity through the thermostat with it set to heat. If you measure continuity through that component, you can check the resistance of the gas valve. The gas valve should measure about 1.5 ohms. If the gas valve is okay, you can check the resistance through the igniter. The resistance through that component will vary. If you read Ol (open load or infinite resistance) then the igniter is bad and will need to be replaced.
