Question and Answers

Q:

The burners work fine, the gas oven will not light? Can you give me any values to test the ignitor to see if it needs to be replaced?

A:

The simplest way to test the ignitor is to read the amp draw. The oven gas valve should open when the amp draw of the ignitor reaches 3.2 amps. If the igniter doesn't reach 3.2 it is defective. If the igniter does draw 3.2-3.6 amps the gas valve is defective.

Q:

Why is my GE gas oven not coming on?

A:

From what you are describing it sounds like the oven igniter is weak. Just because you can see the igniter glowing red or orange does not indicate it is working correctly. The igniter triggers the gas valve with current draw not heat. This is the electrical current going through the igniter when you turn on the oven. I recommend having the igniter replaced.
