Question and Answers

Can I install the glow coil that the gas company indicated was needed for my gas range?

You should be able to install a new glow bar igniter (glow coil) on the bake burner of the oven yourself. You can access this part by unplugging the range and removing the bottom. You may need to remove the oven door to better access the oven bottom. Your owner's manual describes these procedures. Here is a link for your owner's manual in case you need it: Owner's Manual . The procedure for removing the oven door is shown on page 24. The procedure for removing the bottom oven panel is on page 38. You will also have to remove the flame spreader on top of the burner to access the igniter. NOTE: The owner's manual mentions a pilot light but your model has the glow bar igniter instead of the pilot light.

You can order a replacement igniter from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the igniter is WB13K21. A photograph of this part is shown in the first image below. The second image shows technical information for the bake burner on this range. This information should help you replace the igniter. Unplug the igniter (with the range still unplugged) and remove it from the burner. Install the new igniter and plug it into the wiring harness. NOTE: If the plug on the replacement igniter does not fit the wire harness on your range, you can cut the wires and splice them together with ceramic wire nuts. You can buy the ceramic wire nuts at your local hardware or electrical supply store. Make sure that you use ceramic wire nuts for this connection if the plug won't fit. Also, do not touch the element portion of the igniter with your bare fingers. This can decrease the life of the igniter.

Once you replace the igniter, reassemble the range and test the burner.
