Question and Answers

Q:

My 11 year old GE gas range no longer works in bake mode although the broiler continues to work fine.

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working range in the home so that you can continue making some great meals at home. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I suggest you add to the thread of this question and include the full model number of your range so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. I did manage to find a link that will provide you with a more detailed answer. I did manage to find a link that describes a similar problem to the one that you are having with your range. I hope my link is useful.

Thanks for the link. I'll work on diagnosing it tonight with my husband when he comes home. The model number of the GE range is JGBP90MEB2BC. The real question is whether the repair cost of a new burner igniter (if that is the problem) and the labor makes sense with an 11-year old range. Is the repair likely to last for years or is it not worth it?

The answer Joseph P sent will help you diagnose the problem with the oven. The most likely problem is the ignitor. If you remove the ignitor you can usually see where it broke.

If you can replace the ignitor yourself, I recommend you repair the range. When an appliance goes for years working good and then something breaks, it can be the first of several things that will fail shortly.

It would probably be a good time to consider replacing the range.
