Question and Answers

Q:

What would cause my new oven igniter to blow up?

A:

I have never heard of or seen any oven igniter "blow up". I have seen them spark or make an arc when it has a hair line crack in the carborundum of the igniter, but never blow up. It uses resistance to cause the igniter to glow red. Did you install the factory replacement igniter part # WB2X9154?

NOTE: Be sure to not touch the carborundum portion of igniter. The oil from your skin can and will cause the igniter to prematurely burn out but not blow up.

I would replace the igniter again and make sure you do not touch it, and handle it very carefully. The carborundum steel is very fragile.
