Q:

I want to replace a burned out light bulb in my GE micowave convection oven JE1590BH 02, how do I access the bulb to do this?

A:

Since this repair requires removing the cabinet from the unit,I recommend against it for the layperson because a)special tools are required and b)there is considerable danger from high voltage even when the unit is disconnected from the AC and the untrained person could be hurt or even killed. Should you armed with this knowledge decide to take your chances and repair it,once you remove the cabinet its a simple matter of disconnecting the old lamp and connecting a new one. My advice would be to take to shop and have pros do it-if you really need the lamp.I suspect most folks just leave it be.

The cavity light in this microwave is an internal component that would have to be replaced by a technician. The microwave has a high voltage capacitor that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation shielding test must be performed on the unit following any internal repair. These are the reasons that I recommend having a service technician replace the light instead of attempting this repair yourself.
