Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my electric range cook top work but the oven does not?

A:

The oven elements are controlled by an electronic control board. You could have a failed relay in the control board or a wiring failure that would prevent the oven from heating even though the cook top works. I provided the wiring diagram and access information for the control in the image below. If you are able to unplug the range and access the control board, you can check the wiring connections. If you find a loose wiring connection, this could be the cause of your problem.

You may see a burnt spot on the board. If you do, this normally indicates that the board will need to be replaced. You can order a new control board from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the board is WB27X10022R.
