Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I must assume the oven control will accept the bake command and I assume the surface elements work. If the door switch is faulty it will not complete the Neutral circuit to convection fan motor but it would not prevent the bake element from heating. I added an image below of the bake, broil and convection circuits.

Based on your symptom and details I assume the electronic oven control/clock assembly is faulty if the broil element (upper) element will heat and there are no burnt wires or burnt wire connections. The electronic oven control/clock assembly for model JB940BY1 can be ordered from Sears Parts Direct.
