Q:

My garage door will not close it goes almost half way and goes back up. what do you think is the problem ISL950 Genie Garage opener

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I understand how frustrating it can be when the garage door doesn't close properly. If the garage door opens without a hitch, it is likely your sensors that are causing the issue. Make sure there is nothing blocking the sensors and that they are installed properly. I have included a link to our ManageMyLife page where you can view the manual for this unit. Safety beam installation starts on page 22. This should tell you what the proper colors are for the beams. Just click the blue link below to be taken to the page.
Owners Manual for Genie Garage Door Opener Model # ISL950
If the safety sensors are installed correctly and there is nothing blocking them, you may have to replace the sensors. I also recommend checking your limit switch and resetting it as needed. The limit switch setting is on page 27 of your manual.
SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

A:

I have attached a link to a manual for Genie openers. The manual may not be for your specific model, but the wiring instructions for the sensors (on page 16) should be the same. Without the sensors, the door will not close as the safety circuit "sees" no sensors and concludes that the sensors are blocked.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!
