Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

The soft humming is the motor and the motor protector is opening up and this is the reason you hear a click then nothing.  The cause of the problem could be a stick motor switch or the blower is clogged with lint and the motor cannot turn.   I have included some direction for you to check the motor and the blower wheel out.

NOTE:  Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service.

Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

thanks, i had already found the manual. it just shows how to pull the lint guard out to clean it, i want to take the plastic insert that the lint guard slides into out so i can suction it out from the front. i found the 2 torx screws that hold it in, took those out but can't get the plastic to pop out.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The top will need to be hinged up and the front panel removed. I added an image below with the procedure of removing the front panel. Once the front panel has been taken off you will have full access to the lint duct attached to the back of the front panel.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before raising the top and removing the front panel.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Why is my Maytag dryer model HYE2460AYW, not starting but the timer is ticking?

A:

Your dryer likely has a blown thermal fuse (key#5) located on the right side of the heating element housing. The thermal fuse is part #LA-1053. The top will need to be hinged open. The top can be raised by pressing in on two (2) spring clips with a thin bladed instrument such as a putty knife located between the top and front panel and lifting the top assembly upward. NOTE: Be sure to let the top rest against the wall so that it does fall all the way over the back. To remove the thermal fuse you will need to remove the securing the high limit thermal fuse bracket (key#6). NOTE: Disconnect the power cord before raising the top and removing the thermal fuse. I added an image of the heating element assembly and thermal fuse in an E-mail because we are not able to attach images along with the answer at this time. See e-mail.
