Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you're having this problem with the fridge. If the fan in the freezer is running and there is no frost accumulation on the back wall, the most likely problem will be a restricted (frozen) return air vent. A good check will be to feel the air flow out of the air diffuser and then open the freezer door. If the air flow increases, it indicates the return air vent is restricted. To clear the vent, turn the unit off for 24 hours. I hope this will help you.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

This type of problem is air flow related. By this I mean, the air flow to the refrigerator section is reduced. A common cause in this model is, an ice buildup or frost in the air diffuser, causing the gate to bind or break in the closed position. There is an updated gate # 2216112 depending on the serial number, available to help correct this problem. Later models already have this gate installed. This condition can occur, when warm outside air enters the cabinet. Check the door seals to make sure the doors are closing good. A technician will be needed to make this gate repair if needed. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Another possibility will be if the return air freezes up. To check this, feel the air flow coming out of the diffuser. While checking it, open the freezer door. If the air flow increases, it indicates the return vent is blocked. The unit will need to be turned off for awhile, to allow the vent time to thaw out. When it's clear, the fridge section will cool again. If you would like more assistance, additional details will be needed.

Is there a way to check it myself on the gate or whatever. My freezer is freezing but my fridge is warm. Not much air flow into fridge from freezer that can detect. How do I go about checking for the problem myself. Hotpoint HTR17BBRFRWW top freezer model.
