Q:

Water not getting to ice maker. 79572053110 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your ice maker and water is not working properly.

The valve is behind the refrigerator and it dispenses the water dispenser water as well. You will need to test the valve.

1. Check the temperature of the freezer becasue if it is fewer than 17 degrees F it wont make ice.
2.Check if your water fill spout is plugged with ice, if it is then it wont make ice.
3. Check to see if water is getting to the water inlet valve.
4.Use an OHM meter to check the continuity of the water inlet valve. If it does not have any continuity then you need to replace your water valve. If it does then the icemaker itself is the problem and may need to be replaced.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

I read this answer so many times Its time I provide some clarity... I own this model also and what is never said is there are TWO water inlet valves in this Kenmore Elite.. One is located at the back of the unit at the bottom... easily identified. The second is located in the bottom of the left door as you are looking at the unit. If you can fill a glass of water but the ice maker isn't filling with water the problem is the water inlet control valve inside the left door. This valve is easily accessible by removing the lower left door refrigerator shelf and removing the cover to expose the valve that controls the water dispenser and ice maker water fill. So if you can hear the water fill valve being activated however no water flows into the ice maker tray when you cycle the ice maker then the part that is most likely defective is (Refrigerator water inlet valve) in the door. The inlet valve on the back of the refrigerator and where the incoming water hookup is ( Refrigerator water inlet valve # 1) is Part #: AJU72992603 and the Second Refrigerator water inlet valve # 2) IS Part #: MJX41869206. Based on the information provided and brief description of the problem I would replace the Refrigerator water inlet valve #2 located in the left door of the unit. Approximate cost of part is 42.oo plus shipping... and Installation I would consider a 2 out of 10 in difficulty..

nope, doesn't help at all. it isn't stopping on it's own during the middle of the cycle. i was just running a couple of the cycles to make sure the water wasn't leaking at the hookups.

Thank you for adding the model number. From the description you give the washer is spinning okay but when it stops it stops aggressively moving the whole cabinet.

This usually indicates a problem with the brake and/or clutch.

Since the problem happened after a move I suspect something (dust/dirt) fell into the brake area. One thing you might try is letting the machine spin and stop it a few times and see if the problem improves.

You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.

Fred, yes you are correct. spins fine, but stops suddenly when the lid is lifted, or the cycle ends. we needed clothes washed the other night, so we ran a half load through. worked fine. been using it since with no problems. so maybe it just needed some weight in it? it seemed to me that the clutch was still engaged and when the motor stopped turning, so did the tub, causing the whole unit to move around.

The brake most likely had something on it causing it to stop so suddenly. Sometimes the something causing the problem can move and no longer cause the problem.

The centerpost gasket is the main seal but I would expect more water if it was leaking. If the leak seems to be out from the middle it might be some water is splashing up on the tub cover and then leaking over the side. There is also a bleach hose that connects to the side of the outer tub. Another possibility is the water inlet system for fill. The washer can be ran in agitation with the cabinet removed. With the cabinet off you might have a better chance locating the leak. Let me know if this something you'd like to try.
