Thank You for Submitting your question to ManageMyLife.com

I can understand the frustration when your washer stops working. After researching your model number I was able to determine that this is a belt driven model. Which the black rubber pieces may be from a broken belt. If the belt breaks than the washer wont be able to go into spin cycle, and the motor will continue to run. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link below to be taken to the page.

Q:

Why does my Maytag model HAV4657EWW washer squeak in the spin cycle?

A:

There are a few things that might cause a squeak in the spin cycle but only one that might also cause a problem with balance.

I suspect the problem is with the "snubber" on the base of the washer.

There is a spin bearing but when the spin bearing goes out the complaint is usually about a louder noise that a squeak. The spin bearing is not likely to cause an out of balance problem.

The squeak might come from the brake assembly.

One thing you can do is to raise the top and remove the front panel. The washer can be run with the front panel off and this might help give you a better idea where the squeak is coming from. You can also check the suspension springs are all in place. The pump might be another source of a squeak during spin.

This particular washer is not very do-it-yourself friendly. To replace the snubber or brake would require a special brake tool.

I'd recommend a technician repair this type of problem on this washer.

I hope this information is helpful to you but after removing the front panel submit another question with any additional detail for further assistance.

Q:

How do you remove the timer knob from a Maytag washer?

A:

The timer knob will come off one of two possible ways. If it will not push in and unthread by turning it counterclockwise (CCW) you will have to access the back side of the timer and locate the hole in the timer shaft. Using a small, flat blade screwdriver, pry the rod located in this hole to release the knob. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before accessing the timer. See image below.
