Thank you for choosing ManageMyLife.com and allowing us to help you.

This type of problem is caused by a failed infinite burner switch. To fix this problem, you would need to unplug the range and replace the infinite burner switch in the console for that burner. You can click here to order a replacement burner switch from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number is 9750646 and cost $45.21. With the range unplugged, pull the knob off of the switch and remove the upper back panel on the range. This should give you access to the defective switch. Transfer the wires from the old switch to the new one and then remove the old switch and mount the new one in the console. Reassemble the range and test the burner.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

If you have any follow-up questions, please continue our conversation on this existing thread.

Thanks again for choosing ManageMyLife.com

I just need to know if I have the right part since the element has a white plastic piece in the center holding the limiter. Is that white piece in the center suppose to be there and safe to install "as is"?

That replacement part 8523697 is the correct element to replace the left rear burner. The white plastic piece in the center should stay in place. Here is a link for a brief repair video that shows how to replace that type of element: Large Element Replacement . That repair video shows the type of replacement element that you are describing (with the plastic piece in the center holding the limiter).

I hope that this information helps. I understand your apprehension about installing the element with that center piece in place. The video shows that the holder is a component that needs to stay in place while installing that type of element.

If you need more help, let us know.
