Q:

Coils keep freezing on my refrigerator model # gx5shdxvq01. What to do? Gx5shdxvq01

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

I am sorry to hear of the defrost issues you are experiencing with the Whirlpool Bottom-Mount Refrigerator, I know how frustrating it is to have that occur.

The defrost issue you are experiencing could be caused by a few different parts: the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or electronic control (timer).

In order to identify which component is at fault, a multimeter would be needed to test the components of the defrost circuit. Sears recommends having a technician assist with these checks as the parts can be difficult to access and test without technical expertise.

For convenience, I have included blue links below that may be click on to be directed to the PartsDirect site to view and purchase any of the needed defrost components once the faulted component is isolated.

Defrost Heater for Model GX5SHDXVQ01

Defrost Thermostat for Model GX5SHDXVQ01

Defrost Timer Electronic Control for Model GX5SHDXVQ01

Thanks for the inquiry about your refrigerator model GX5SHDXVQ01, I will be glad to assist. Removal of the door is accomplished by op0ening the door and lifting it off the rails. Removing the upper basket will require tools and close observance of disassembly to it can be reinstalled properly. This is normally not necessary for cleaning, if you choose to remove the upper basket take pictures or mark every step for reinstallation as there are no detailed instructions written. To access the defrost drain the back cover in the freezer section will need removing. Or you can access the drain tube from under the back of the unit. _Always disconnect power supply before servicing the appliance and be cautious of any sharp metals while accessing components_I will attach images of the process; due to the length it will take two posts. I hope this helps. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.
