Question and Answers

Q:

Whirlpool DIshwasher top rack not cleaning. Replaced feeder tube. still not working

A:

Dishwashers are not much of a convenience if you have to rewash the dishes. Sounds like you have done some troubleshooting and eliminated one possible problem. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can check another expert post that had other suggested easy checks you can make if you like. I attached the link below. Hope this helps to get that arm working.

Check the water level in the dishwasher. Low water level could prevent the upper spray arm from getting proper water pressure. Start a cycle and allow the dishwasher to fill. After the filling stops, crack the door open to stop the dishwasher. Open the door fully and look at the water level in the tub. It should be within 1/4" to just touching the bottom of the heating element. If the water level is too low, you will need to look at the fill system. Make sure that the water cut-off valve for the dishwasher is fully open. If you suspect that the water pressure is low in the fill line, you can shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher and pull it out from under the counter. Shut off the water supply and pull the fill line off of the inlet water valve. Place the end of the fill line in a bucket and briefly turn on the water supply to check for proper water pressure and flow. You can also check the inlet water screen on the solenoid fill valve.

If the dishwasher is filling properly, then I recommend that you check the sump area for a clog or restriction. The image below shows how to access this area in the dishwasher. You may find a problem in the chopper blade area that is preventing the pump to supply proper pressure to the upper spray arm.

If you find no problems in the sump are, you may have a bad pump/motor assembly. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this type of failure. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.

Q:

What would cause my Whirlpool dishwasher to display double dashes and not start?

A:

If you can not change the cycle selection the likely failure is the keypad. If you are able to change the cycle selection and it will not start the likely failure is the door switch.

The double dashes "- -" normally indicates the door switch is not closing and sending voltage to the control board on the Tan wire. Check the door switch operation. Confirm that the door switch with the tan wire and the black wire with the white stripe attached is closing when the door is shut. When the door switch closes it should provide voltage to the control board on the Tan wire. I recommend checking all the wire connection at the control board also. NOTE: Disconnect power to dishwasher before removing the console. I recommend testing the door switch for continuity and not voltage. Remove both wires and with the door closed the door switch should have continuity.
