Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with your Whirlpool GU2400xtpt3 dishwasher

From the description of the probme I suspect the dishwasher is not heating the water.  The differenece between the normal/express and pots and pan cycles are water heat. 

Try to verify if the water is being heating during the cycle.  At the end of the cycle the dishes should be almost to hot to pickup. 

If the dishwasher runs forever then then control may be at fault.  At some point the control should advance to the end of the cycle even if it is not heating.
