Q:

Why is my Whirlpool dishwasher making a loud humming sound when it runs?

A:

This problem normally indicates that you have a foreign object stuck in the chopper blade portion of the sump. If you shut off the breaker and pull out the dishwasher washer racks, you can use the procedure shown below to access this area and check for this problem. Your dishwasher will be slightly different than the one shown below. The inner feed tube will be held by metal clips instead of screws as shown in Fig. 3-9 in the image below. The rest of the procedure is the same.

If you find and remove a foreign object in the chopper blade area of the sump, then you will likely fix the noise problem in your dishwasher.
